About 90% of top quality PD research proposals get funded.... --------------------------------------------------------- In 1995 the NINDS Director Dr. Tom Chance(?) reported to the PAN Forum that 10% of the GOOD (top) research proposals are rejected due to lack of funding. He is concerned that by not funding good young scientists NIH has decreased the talent pool which had been creatively working on neurological disorders. When I repeated this figure to Dr. Kurth, our MD then in Phoenix and now NPF associate director for clinicl research, he felt that about HALF of the good/top research gets funded. In short: 1. Many excellent ideas for finding the cure are not funded, rejected. 2. Many talented scientists can't find work to find the cure. ** A.J.
