I sent the following letter to the editor of Sports
Illustrated. Maybe they will print it, maybe they won't, but I
think it's worth a try - it could reach a lot of people
nationally who presently know very little about PD. The difficult
part is trying to fit as much information as possible in only a
few sentences, but none of their published letters seem to be
over 100 words. If anyone else writes, perhaps they could include
other facts that are not included here. (BTW, they request name,
address and phone number for all letters.)

RE: The Best of Friends, July 13, 1998 issue

Ali's voice has been ravaged by Parkinson's Disease, but his
presence spoke as eloquently as words could, at a Congressional
hearing last March, in support of the Morris K. Udall Act for
Parkinson's Research. Ali's efforts have brought hope to over one
million other Americans afflicted with Parkinson's. Increased
research funding could help finally KO this debilitating disease.
However, the Udall Act, passed into law in 1997, is currently in
danger of not receiving its full funding by Congress, due to
political conflicts.

Note to the editor: More information on the Udall Act and Ali's
role can be found online at
