The tulip (although ALSO in a diversity of used colours) is AFAIN (as far as I know) an accepted symbol for PWP/PD/Associations in Canada, Europe and Australia. Why don't you join the "united" rest of the world by making the tulip also THE PD-symbol in the USA too??!! (If you need a more personal / group-identity symbol, perhaps a tulip on a silver/purple/etc ribbon could be considered for now). The tulip worldwide choosen as THE symbol of PD/PWP, should eventually cause the tulip to be associated ALWAYS with PD/PWP, timeless and independent from (political) actions e.g. for funding. The person wearing the tulip-symbol would show his/her connection (in whatever way) to the UNIFIED parkinson community AS A WHOLE, NO MORE. (Symbol used for public awareness/publicity/recognition). Perhaps the hourglass could be used as a symbol for one or more (political) ACTIONS, fundraising, pressuregroups, etc., where opposite meanings, money, differences of opinion, choosing sides, etc. play a role. (Symbol used for a more limited group of PWP, active and fighting for a defined goal, being associated also WITH that goal). Hans.
