I received the following reply from Sports Illustrated about my letter-to-the-editor. We'll see what happens. I noticed this week there were a number of letters about the Ali article - but they all were about Howard Bingham, Ali's friend. Not one mentioned Parkinson's. But look at the instructions about submitting story suggestions. Many of us have already written letters to newspapers and magazines, but what about submitting story ideas related to Parkinson's research funding to the national news magazines? Or has this already been tried? With the brewing political controversy over the HHS Appropriations Bill, maybe there would be some interest at this time. It seems most articles about this bill deal with the proposed social service and education cuts, and the President's threatened veto. I've seen little about its impact on medical research, other than that NIH funding has been increased, and certainly nothing about Parkinson's or the Udall Bill. Maybe some of our writers on the list could think of some creative story ideas that might get the attention of these magazines? Any suggestions?
