The National Parkinson Foundationis pleased to present the 1st Annual Operation: Cure PD, a 10K run/walk benefiting Parkinson’s disease research as well as various Carolina charities. Scheduled to take place on September 12, 1998 in Asheville, NC, Operation: Cure PD is expected to draw over 3,000 participants nationally including professional circuit marathoners, members of the military, Parkinson’s patients, caregivers, and the general public. Active and Reserve members of the U.S. Armed Forces have volunteered their help for this exciting event. Never before has there been such a supportive effort between so many volunteer members of the Armed Forces for a non-profit organization in raising awareness. Representatives of the military and Veterans groups, joined by the local Scouts of America, will enter the races/walk as contestants and/or act as escorts for Parkinson’s patients who wish to participate. In addition to being a great fund raiser for NPF and local charities, this event will be instrumental in raising the much needed awareness of Parkinson's disease on both a local and international level while giving the community a chance to get involved in a fun and worthwhile event. Event Information: NPF is currently recruiting participants for this unique event. Individuals may participate in the races/walk as contestants or they may choose to make a contribution as a "silent runner".
