Dear Dennis, Good for you for seeking help for your mother; you won't find a better group than this listserv. > Slow gait/shuffle type walk, frequent falling down, changes in speech, > smaller handwriting, restricted movement, difficulty eating, lower > back pains. She is on sinemet, eldepryl and bromocriptine. If she's not already doing so, she should take her Sinemet 30-60 minutes before eating, to be sure it gets into the bloodstream unhampered by protein in her meals. Protein interferes with levodopa absoroption, so that she won't gain full benefit from it, and her parkinson symptoms will not be relieved as much. As she has broken a hip and continues to fall, I imagine her physician has prescribed hormone replacement therapy and calcium and vitamin D supplements. If not, these are all very important to her health. She should get 1500 mg calcium and 400-800 IUs vitamin D daily, along with estrogen.
