Hi Jane..

One of my support group members had a bilateral pallidotomy (actually two
unilateral ones, 6 months apart). His speech was fine till he had the second
surgery. He came out of the second surgery with no dyskenesia and no voice.

It's been about 18 months since he lost his voice and we've all noticed it's
suddenly back to about 3/4 of it's original volume. THAT came about from
speech therapy I believe, rather than collagen injections... the latter of
which he never looked into, according to him.

As you know, I've had 3 pairs of collagen injections and have an appointment
for the 4th pair in a few weeks.. My gut feeling - in no way verified by an
MD who's performed the procedure for PD patients - is that collagen injections
would NOT help in a post-pallidotomy situation.

I could be wrong tho, and suggest an skilled MD's opinion would be the only
way to really know if the injections would benefit your friend.

Good luck to him....

My friend who had a bilateral palladotomy about two years has been unable
to speak ever since. He also can't swallow very well (makes throat noises
at the meetings) Last meeting I gave them information about colligan
treatments. Today his wife read it. She waited until I had cleared all my
old mail out of my computer.

Please help me. Do any of you think colligan would help his speech or
swallowing problems?? Where have you heard that they are doing this?

                                Hope I spelled it right!
