I post this at intervals because it is important. If you fit the
criteria and have not contacted Ms. Orvis, you may help your whole
family if you do.
Thanks,
Nita

Sorry to take so long to respond...I've been on vacation for
the last 2 weeks. Here's another little blurb about our study. Just
to let you know, I'll be leaving here at the end of August to teach
ninth grade biology. Yes, it's a career change and I'm very excited
about it. I don't know yet who will be taking over the study but
I'll let you know when I do.

PD Genetics Research

Researchers at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center in New York City
are conducting a research project on the genetics of PD. The causes
of PD are currently unknown. We believe that there may be genetic
factors that play a role in its development. We do not yet know to
what extent environmental factors such as diet, smoking, or other
lifestyle factors are important for the development of PD. Although
we collect some basic environmental information from study
participants, our main goal is to determine the genetic risk factors.
In order to do this, participants are asked to supply information
about their family tree. Once this information is reviewed by our
staff we may wish to pursure your family further. This would
include: donating a blood sample, sending copies of your medical
records, and completing various questionnaires. ALL OF THIS CAN BE
DONE THROUGH THE MAIL. We have participants from all over the
country! Also, we provide most of the supplies and will reimburse you
for any costs you might accrue as a participant. IN ORDER TO
PARTICIPATE YOUR FAMILY MUST HAVE AT LEAST 2 MEMBERS WITH PARKINSON'S
DISEASE. If you would like more information please contact our study
coordinator: Lisa J. Orvis, M.S., The Neurological Institute, 710
