Re my husband's communication problems, I've noticed that, in addition to
slowness, hesitation and low volume, he often forgets even common words
altogether (for instance instead of  "Coca Cola" he will say "that black drink";
and will often say "the ... what do you call it?")

He also replaces a word with another word partly similar in sound but quite
different in meaning; or with a word related in meaning but not appropriate in
that context. (sorry I can't think of any examples at present - but I hope you
know what I mean.)

Most of the time his speech is clear and good; but there are times when it is
really slurred and mumbling. And he sometimes talks at great length but
inconsequentially - i.e. sentences that simply don't follow on from the previous
sentence but go off on a completely unconnected line of thought, as though his
thought-processes are confused.   He seems unaware that he's doing it, thinks
he's talking sense, and sometimes gets quite angry if I say I haven't understood
what he's talking about.
