Re my husband's communication problems, I've noticed that, in addition to slowness, hesitation and low volume, he often forgets even common words altogether (for instance instead of "Coca Cola" he will say "that black drink"; and will often say "the ... what do you call it?") He also replaces a word with another word partly similar in sound but quite different in meaning; or with a word related in meaning but not appropriate in that context. (sorry I can't think of any examples at present - but I hope you know what I mean.) Most of the time his speech is clear and good; but there are times when it is really slurred and mumbling. And he sometimes talks at great length but inconsequentially - i.e. sentences that simply don't follow on from the previous sentence but go off on a completely unconnected line of thought, as though his thought-processes are confused. He seems unaware that he's doing it, thinks he's talking sense, and sometimes gets quite angry if I say I haven't understood what he's talking about. Margaret (CG for husband David, 79/9)
