On the face of it giving $50,000,000 to an existing research institute makes more sense than spending a portion of it to build a new organisation. BUT - a $50,000,000 donation is just that, a once only donation, whilst the same amount used to start a new project is seed money with the chance of more to come. Either way, my thanks to the donor.
