Dear Joy,
Our brother-in-law from Skokie,Illinois brought Aliza a
U-Step Walker this past thursday.
Its quite deluxe, compared with the simple, light folding walker Aliza has
been using.
She is still not comfortable with it.
I have the following comments:
1.Aliza is not strong enough to open and close the brake lock.
2.We have carpeting in our bedroom, but the adjacent bathroom has a tile floor.
There is a metal strip at the interface between the carpet and the tile floor
which is difficult for Aliza to push the walker over. With the simple
walker,she just
lifts the walker up and over.
3.The U-Step walker is portable but significantly heavier than the simple
walker.
Last night,we went to an outdoor wedding.I took the simple walker since
when Aliza and I are
walking together,it is easier and faster for me to hold her right hand
with my left
arm and I can hold the simple walker with my right hand.Once we were
there,the U-Step
would have been easier. There were two surfaces;grass and brick.Walking on
the grass was
very difficult for her.The U-Step would have been feasible to use on both
surfaces.The
simple walker was not useful for her on the grass. She kept saying that her
feet were stuck
on the grass and had alot of trouble maintaining her balance even when held.
4.The basket on the U-Step is very useful. The seat is less useful because to
use it,she would
have to turn around by 180 degrees.,which is not easy for her to do.
5.The U-Step moves very easily without having to lift it,whereas at each
step,the simple walker
has to be lifted. So she canm move faster with trhe U-Step.
6.I like the inset wheels on the U-Step since I'm always stubbing my toes on
the protruding
wheels of the simple walker. My feet seem to have a magnetic attraction for
these wheels.

Thanks for recommending it.
Warm regards to you and Bob.
