The Doctor Parkinson's 'Roots Rock' Remedy Romp - is a benefit concert party that will be held at Irving Plaza in New York City on Friday, September18th. Details: Proceeds will go to the Parkinson's Unity Walk for PD research. The show is all-ages. Alcohol is served to those with wristbands who have shown a valid ID. (Chances are this won't be much of a problem with regular Digesters.) Tickets are $25. They are available through Ticketmaster and at the box office. Irving Plaza is at 16th and Irving Place one block east of Union Square. The doctor's event T-shirts will be on sale for $12 (cheap) E-mail me with questions or for more details. Here's the line-up: From Good Homes - a popular local rock group with a country flair (call it Hick Pop), voices like angels and a variety of instruments ranging from acoustic guitars to fiddle, electric violin, pedal steel, keyboards, sax, clarinet and penny whistle. They've released 3 CDs on RCA and regularly fill venues in the Northeast. If you've ever heard them live you're a fan. Rick Danko - member of 'The Band'. Say no more. The Band is releasing a CD of all new songs on September15th. The album features session work by Eric Clapton and John Hiatt. Rick will be down from Woodstock to play Band favorites, old standards and join in on an all-star jam. Kings In Disguise - If you stuck around after last year's Unity Walk and heard the singing and fiddle playing of Tim Carbone you know how great Kings is. Like the members of From Good Homes they are accomplished musicians who like to mix up all kinds of acoustic and electric instruments from pedal steel guitar to alto sax to flute in a souffle of pop, rock, country and fusion jazz. Clandestine - A celtic band from Austin, Texas, of all places. Fiddle, bagpipes and two wonderful female vocalists who sing traditional Irish ballads and glorious jigs. It's downright impossible not to be moved by their music. The Samuel Saint Thomas Band - Samuel is a singer / songwriter who has written, produced and engineered his own solo album in his own studio. The music ranges from moving spiritual ballads to powerful rocking laments. Samuel's friends from Kings In Disguise and From Good Homes are featured on his CD. Gary Dillon, a local Pocono area singer/songwriter in his own right, will play electric and acoustic guitar Friday night. The Lost Ramblers - ramblin' Blue Grass. These guys don't need no stinkin' amplifiers to please a crowd. They will be roaming Irving Plaza from lobby to dance floor and back to entertain before the show and during breaks in the action on stage. Here's the concept: Appeal to a young crowd that may not ordinarily be attracted to the Parkinson's Unity Walk. I see them and talk to them all over; sons, daughters, grandchildren, friends & relatives of PWPs who would like to do something to help out but are not yet connected with a PD organization or specific charity and jump at the opportunity when it presents itself. Let's get them to the good Doctor's party and while they're having a great time slip them with some info on the Walk and sign them up. GOTCHA!. Hey, they'll never know what hit them. Of course you know better already and you'll come for the terrific music as well as the cause. Caution: Irving Plaza is a bare bones nightclub which means there ain't much in the way of seating or creature comforts. It's purpose built for all ages concerts and fits up to1,000. It is not particularly handicap friendly, either - contact me if you have questions or absolutely need seating. Doctor Parkinson says, "Come romp. It's good fer ya." -Ken Aidekman Visit the Parkinson's Unity Walk website: www.parkinsonwalk.org Fund the Research. Find the Cure.
