Well, I had my appointment last week, with my new MDS neuro at Robert Wood
Johnson Hospital's Neurology Dept. Thank you Margaret Tuchman! The new
doctor is terrific, or so he seems. First PD specialist I have had who
listened. He's putting me on Tasmar - as soon as I can get a blood test to
see if my liver is up to this drug; so I will be on Sinement, Eldypryl,
Mirapex and Tasmar. He said 6-8 weeks & if no improvement in my mobility he
said we would go for with Mirapex and either BACK on Permax or try Requip
next - my choice. He said a lot of PWP do well on Permax after having left
it for Mirapex.
He made it clear he wanted me to keep him informed by phone and didn't
think the 4 months between appts would be a problem. He answered all the
questions I had - most of which were suggested by YOU kind folks!
So I am going to do some thing I did not expect to do - give this guy
another try!
Which brings me to my next topic - Thank you's. I got over 20 responses
to my one day request for help in handling my appt with a new neuro the next
day. I was panicking that I was not going to know what to ask or to
volunteer to help this new doctor figure out how to help me. About 2/3 of
the List members responding were the well-informed backbone of our forum.
Part of that [international] group which know a lot and try to help whenever
they can. Surprisingly I got 7 or 8 responses from folks who never post.
Just as knowledgeable and as helpful as the regulars! One guy, a "52/9,"
had just come back from a trip to Kodiak fly fishing for salmon!! The only
problem he had was he went in the drink twice & got water in his waders and
the water is COLD in Alaska!
His note was a big upper for me. He gave some med. advice [thought
perhaps my Sinement intake was too low] and gave me a GREAT "give em hell"
talk. These are the unsung heroes of this Parkinson List.
There were others too. If any of you ever need help just ask here!
Provide all the details and you'll be amazed at the quantity and quality of
what is offered to you.
