Dear Kim and others in small towns:

It is very important to have your father see a movement disorders
specialist ASAP. although his local doctor may be doing his best, there is
no substitute or a docor with up to date information and access to state of
the art equipment.
Dizziness and loss of balance are nothing to try to wait out. My
father's dizziness was largely a result of incorrect (for him) medication.
It resulted in many falls, some when no one was around to help.
Although with PD your father will never be "well," perhaps he can be
better.
We had a three hour drive to get to the right doctor, and we know of others
who have 10 hour drives. Follow up is with the local physician, with a
re-evaluation every six months in Boston.
We got listened to, answers, and recommended changes. The local doc has
his nose a little out of joint over this, but too bad. He isn't the person
who has to live with the effects of Parkinson's. Good luck, and be an real
advocate for your dad.
