In 613 BC the Parkinson's Disease Association of Media approached Cyaxares, King of the Medes, seeking an increase in funding for PD research. They pointed out that: - the MEDIAN high council had already voted the funds but were reluctant to actually part with them (which was MEAN). - PD forced thousands of Medes (and millions of people yet unborn) into a MODE of living that no-one would choose. - the cure was just around the corner and appropriate funding now (or is that then) would hasten it. (There was even a school of thought that argued that if the cure could be found before the birth of James Parkinson, PD would never exist). It is not certain whether the request was overlooked because of preoccupation with court scandals, or refused because of the need to fund the Assyrian campaign, but one or the other must have occurred because PD is still with us. (It is inconceivable that they got the money but failed to find the cure. Money fixes everything doesn't it?) All in all a pretty average outcome.
