Were you ever a smoker? There are a lot of doctors out there that tell my father that the reason his ankles and feet are swollen, is because he used to smoke. Now I know that almost all doctors try to get you to give up smoking by whatever means possible, but they all can't have the same excuse, so maybe just maybe there is something to it. It may be worth looking into.
