i mean to send in my one little nugget of knowledge
about the Mayo Clinic ages ago,
but ... here it is anyway...

i remember seeing a documentary program about the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota
[the first and largest one] several years ago on television. what impressed me
the most was the emphasis on co-operation between the specialists,
particularly in trying to come up with a diagnosis. it seems to me that when a
specific patient's case was discussed, the meeting took place as a round-table
discussion among peers who respected each others' skills. there was not even a
whiff of the 'doctor as god 101' concept. the focus was on solving the
patient's problems not pandering to anyone's ego or preconceptions.
