I sent it along to Bill Heitmann & he suggested that it send it to you. Dr. Henderson works at St. Louis University Schhol of Medicine. I recommend him highly. -- --- Joan Snyder (47/8) "Do or do not. References: <[log in to unmask]> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Hi Joan, Of course I remember you. One of my most memorable patients! (although Tom Kelly does win the prize for his constant recital of redneck jokes during surgery). I'm sorry to hear that things are continuing to worsen for you. Unfortunately, I doubt that deep brain stimulation surgery is going to be of much help. The current FDA-approved indication is for tremor only, and the target in the thalamus (the brain's relay station) is pretty much good for just that: tremor. We wouldn't have much chance of affecting your other symptoms. Another type of stimulation surgery which targets a small area called the subthalamic nucleus could potentially be of help, but we are just now getting involved in controlled studies of this technology for which the entry criteria are very restrictive (i.e., no prior surgery). Plus, I'm not convinced that this operation is particularly benign, especially from a cognitive standpoint. At any rate, it would be nice to see you and see how you're doing, and we could talk more about some of the possibilities. If you feel up to the trip, you could make an appointment for some Thursday in the near future. Talk to you soon, JM Henderson --------------F8CE227F65CE3498EBB02A50--
