I have a question...didn't your neurologist give you the perscription of eldypryl to take twice a day...morning and evening? Bob was told to take his at those times adn he does have lack of sleep sometimes..early in the morning...he says he is just not tired..maybe that is the problem?? jeesh,, why would the DR tell us to do this and this could be the sleeping problem? >>>> H: Eldepryl can cause sleepingproblems. To prevent that the second pill must be taken at or before noon. If you take two pills a day you can take one pill in the morning and one at noon. Are you still having sleepingproblems, you can (after consulting your neuro) take both pills at the same time in the morning. Still having sleepingproblems you can reduce (after consulting your neuro) the dose to one pill in the morning. Still not sleeping well you could (a.c.y.n.) consider to stop taking Eldepryl. Also keep in mind that sleeplessness can also be caused by other anti-PD-meds!! When I mentioned this to my neuro' he prescribed the anti depressant Amitryptiline, after which I began sleeping well at night with more or less normal dreams. You may well ask why did I continue with the eldepryl, the answer being that despite the sleepless nights it did a good job in " smoothing out" the intake and prolonging the benefit of Madopar (Sinemet equivalent). >>>> H: Eldepryl makes the working of the Madopar stronger, and this may be probably the cause of the "hallucinatory" dreams. Suggestion: instead of taking the Amitriptyline, you might try to take less Madopar (of course a.c.y.n. = after consulting your neuro). Several List members have confirmed this in the months I have been on the List -- i.e., do not take eldepryl after noon because it will cause sleeplessness, but taking it at noon is fine. >>>> H: You are correct! Also see my earlier comment above!! Hope this helps, Hans.
