Mr. Fuhr,

Thank you for contacting Senator Bond's office. I have spoken with Joe
several times recently and he has been extremely helpful and interested
in our issue. Senator Bond is signing the letter to Senator Specter,
and we are very grateful for his support.

I want you to know how important your contact has been in this process.
Parkinson's is an issue that Senator Bond is interested in for personal
reasons, but it was the timely contact from an interested and informed
constituent (you) that helped Joe and Senator Bond focus on the latest
activity. We did our job by meeting with Joe and giving him all the
background information and telling him the details of what we are doing,
why and how Senator Bond can help, and your contact helped add urgency
and legitimacy to what we were telling him.

Members of Congress want to help their constituents. You called asking
for Bond's help, and we showed up with a relatively easy -- although
very important -- way he could help. It's a win-win. And it wouldn't
happen without you being in touch with him. The thing to do now is to
write him a note thanking him for signing the letter to Senator Specter,
praising his continued strong support for Parkinson's research, and
expressing confidence that he'll do all he can to ensure that this new,
stronger language we're getting in the bill will stay in the final
version. He will probably be a member of a joint House/Senate
conference committee that will decide on the details of the final
version of the fiscal 1999 Labor-HHS bill, and the more aware of this
issue he is, the more he's already done for it (like signing this
letter) the more likely it is he'll work to make sure it stays in the
final version. That's another reason why your continued contact and
support is so important.

Please tell other Parkinson's advocates and supporters in Missouri to
thank Senator Bond as well.

Good work, and please get in touch with me whenever you have questions
or comments.

Sincerely,

Michael Claeys
