Art, I was assuming the figures were an exaggeration, not an actual case
history, to make the point, which it did well. Subjects as complex as this
can't be made too simple.
You can always get more for less, through negotiation and hard work, but you
can never get something for nothing! Sometimes you want to buy the best
product, regardless of cost, and health care becomes more important when you
need it, than you think it will be when you are paying for it. If you are a
minimum wage earner, and can get an HMO free, it is a true bargain. On the
other hand if you are trying to decide between unlimited medical
coverage and an HMO, and you can AFFORD the difference, and if family history
shows you that you may have to take advantage of the coverage on a regular
basis, why not treat yourself and your family to the best? It is a personal
choice, and everyone has their own priorities. In the future we may not get a
choice. The employers might decide to not supply ANY health care benefits, or
just offer an HMO, and no other choice. The latest trend among employers is
cutting expenses, in case anyone has missed that! [log in to unmask]
