I have not seen the insert, but I'm going to talk to my pharmacist
because I would like to read it.

I want to commend you for taking on this task.

My husband attended a Caregivers' support group meeting the other day,
and I went along because I had some photocopying to do for our Young
Onset meeting. At the end of the Caregivers' meeting, my husband asked
me to speak to a couple of women who had questions about Medic Alert
bracelets. One of the women noticed that it showed that I was allergic
to Demerol. I told her it really wasn't an allergy, but because I take
Eldepryl, I can't take Demerol because it's contraindicated and could be
fatal. She was surprised because her husband has been taking Eldepryl
for twelve years and had never heard this before.

Whenever I hear something like this, my heart almost leaps into my
throat. I told her that a list of contraindicated meds was being
prepared and I would distribute it as soon as I get it. Unfortunately, I
don't know how it can be simple and complex at the same time, but we do
need the information. Perhaps, as with everything else involving
Parkinsons, it will be a matter of the PWP or caregiver seeking out the
details of those medications on the list which apply to them. At least
the list will be a starting point...
