Dear Gina: YIKES! I am surprised the hospital suggested such a poor way to dispose of the lancets (biohazardous waste). Hospitals and any medically related clinic, etc., are heavily fined by OSHA if they violate proper disposal of such items. Please ask the staff in the doctor's office (I think some pharmacies may supply these also) for a red, biohazard needle disposal box. When filled, you should bring the sealed box back to the doctor's office for proper disposal. I suppose they may charge you a fee for this, but this assures proper disposal. I called the local hospital and questioned them. Well, it seems that the hospital doesn't dispose of them (doesn't want to) so get a heavy duty bottle like Downey Softness, and put them in there. Next place the lancets that are in the Softener bottle in the regular trash not the recyclable but the landfill trash. Made me wonder. These little things can be incinerated to ash.<<<<
