Better Late Than- (19 Oct 1998)

Those ever-alert folks at TIME magazine ran this big scoop in
the 26 October 1998 issue, page 110:

"Scientists report a promising new treatment for Parkinson's
disease. A study of advanced and even bedridden cases shows that
electrically stimulating the brain with implanted electrodes
reduces symptoms dramatically. Indeed, most patients who
underwent the procedure were well enough to perform everyday
tasks again- even while cutting back on their medication."

Evidently, TIME refers to the latest report on deep-brain
stimulation (DBS), by P. Limousin et al, in the New England
Journal Of Medicine for 15 October 1998, pages 1105-1111.
And is blissfully unaware that successful DBS for PD has
been reported many times since June 1996 or earlier.
I don't know whether to laugh or cry. Cheers,
Joe
