Dear Greg abd Karen: I read your article and wanted to offer some assistance and ask for help at the same time. I agree with your point on Communications but I am trying to do it on a grander scale. I am trying to build a data base of all the support groups in the US. The data base is meant to be a utility for any and all uses of the PD Community. I currently have 1,500 support groups in the data base and about 600 more names to enter. I'm in the process of mailing 800 letters today to many of the groups asking them to update and correct the information currently in the base. If you are contacted by anyone calling about the letter please encourage them to respond. I can also offer you a copy of all the Maine Groups and/or a set of mailing labels to help you facilitate the communication links in your state. I am separately sending by e-mail the list of Maine Groups that I am currently aware of. Good luck with your organizational activities... You are not alone. More and more individuals are working in their states to build state organizations. For instance Ohio with about 95 groups is divided into 4 sections, At the last PAN forum in Washington I met the president of the Alabama State Organization and if I recall correctly the state organization was Budgeted $70,000. As a line item on the state budget. Gerry and Brit Haynes are working in Pa, Lupe McCann cementing up Long Island and Carol Walton working in California. This is just a couple of names that come to mind quickly. It is my hope that the data base will be the instrument to weld the State Organizations into one communication channel that can disseminate as much information to as many PWPD as possible. May I also take this opportunity to thank Robin Elliott and the PDF for a grant which made it possible to send out written inquires to update the group information. Keep on plugging.
