Dan,  My mother also lives with me now (since March) and has been diagnosed
25 yrs.  Some thoughts that sprang to mind are:  It sounds as though there
is some dementia  and changing you mother's place of residence (from your
house to your brother's) could be contributing to her problem.  My mom was
very disoriented for several months (still is sometimes).  I believe keeping
her surroundings THE SAME is very important.  Don't even change the
furniture around.  Perhaps she is crying out because she got up to go to the
bathroom but is lost.
I'm taking Mom in to see the Neurologist tomorrow and we'll be discussing
her taking Aricept to help control her dementia.  I'll be posting the
results.
