Phil named several reasons why one might resist "telling"--another (which may well not apply to Lorraine's father) is that the person is still employed, and is in a position where to admit the illness would have a very negative effect on his/her employment. Not all bosses are as understanding as some folks on the list have reported theirs to be.......circumstances alter cases. As Phil said, we know little about L's. father and can't really be more specific--but checking with his doc is a good first step.
