Does anyone out there really understand why AIDS research continues to get a disproportionate share of Federal dollars? Clinton just today announced some new multi-hundred million dollar measure to fund AIDS research. Yet, I heard a few weeks ago that AIDS cases are way down, and, in fact, AIDS is no longer even in the top 10 among the killers of young men. This is probably due more to education than it is to medical research but that just causes one to ponder - why does so much money go to a disease that can be eradicated with education alone?
