Dear Doctor Stoessl, I had subscribed to the parkinson's Listserv on the Internet and everyone there is telling me that you and Doctor Donald Calne are the best. My mother has Parkinson's Disease, Rheumatoid arthritis, and osteoporosis. Several years ago she had a terrible reaction to prednozone (sp) and gold injections which she recovered from barely and about a year or so later was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. My mother has just turned 67. The reason I am writing is that my mother's Parkinson's symptoms have become much worse over the last month. She began to freeze, her feet began to stick to the floor, she began to slow down even more. getting up and down out of chairs became even harder.The week before last; every day mom was unable to do something else ie pull on her pants, pull off her pants, dressing, even picking up her pills became impossible, she began to get more confused her speech became more halting and slow. Then finally during the night of October 31 this year mom called to me and I found her lying on her bedroom floor, she could not get up. She had been unable to get out of bed and had simply rolled onto the floor and crawled to the far side in the hopes she could stand up. I called an ambulance and mom has been in the Maple Ridge Hospital since. She has deteriorated quickly getting more and more weak: her speech, walking, memory, she can no longer feed herself, she's having problems with holding her bladder, etc... My mother's neurologist ( Doctor Tessler ) does not have hospital privilidges and simply prescribed sinemet without seeing my mother. Is there a way my mother could see you? Could you come and see her in the maple Ridge Hospital or could she go to UBC Hospital in an ambulance? You may be her only chance. I am her only child and I have Kugleberg Welander disease and am in a wheelchair. I want the best for my mother and everyone at the Parkinson's Listserv say you and Doctor Calne are the best. They too are hoping you will be able to help and are waiting to hear back from me on whether or not you will. Thanking you in advance.
