In a press release at www.parkinsondisease.com/rochemds.htm we can read of a new award to fund research in Parkinson's disease. Last month the President of the Movement Disorders Society Professor Eduardo Tolosa announced to the 5th International Congress of that non-profit organization of distinguished researchers and educators the MDS/Roche Parkinson's Disease Award, which is intended to reward "future research that will have a major impact on the field of Parkinson's disease." The recipient will receive 30,000 Swiss francs (approximately 22,000 US dollars), and one year's membership in MDS. Elsewhere on the internet* a press release about the Roche half-year report for 1998 announces, "The Roche Group's result for the first half of 1998 surpassed expectations. Consolidated net profit totalled 2.5 billion Swiss francs ...." Gee, thanks Roche, we hardly know what to say. * See www.roche.com/roche/finance/frep2_98/frep298c.htm Phil Tompkins Hoboken NJ age 60/dx 1990
