I'm forwarding the following information I received from WE-MOVE
(Worldwide Education and Awareness for Movement Disorders). Does anyone
have more information on genetic links between PD and essential tremor?

Haplotype analysis of a family with both early-onset PD and essential
tremor has established the first genetic link between the two disorders.
The announcement was made in a special platform presentation at the 5th
International Congress of Parkinson's Disease and Movement Disorders in
New York City, extending the results reported in a poster presented by
the authors.

Of 175 identified family members over four generations, DNA analysis has
been performed on 38. Of these, 6 have PD and 6 have ET. All 12 have the
particular 4p haplotype, while no unaffecteds do. Inheritance appears to
be autosomal dominant. ET has been found in children of parents with PD,
but not the reverse as of yet. Candidate genes have not yet been
identified.

The team would like to hear of other PD/ET families, and can be
contacted at [log in to unmask]
