Ken gets a mucousy cough at night when he is lying on his back. During the day, he just drools it out. All this is because he has lost his swallow reflex. He had a swallow work-up, and he swallows well when he thinks about it, but the automatic reflex is gone. I wake him up at night and tell him to take a deep breath and to swallow.
