I am fairly new to the list, and wanted to respond to question about genetic basis for PD. I have a stepbrother on my Fathers side who was diagnosed with PD approx. 20 years ago. He is now 61 (I'm 51) and suffers from multiple complications of the disease and treatments. Our paternal Grandmother had late onset PD, and so did one Aunt. Our Dad died at 57 from cancer, so don't know if he would have developed PD or not. My stepbrother and I never lived in the same area (thus ruling out an environmental cause as our connection) , so I am convinced there is a genetic basis (predisposition) for pd in some cases. I was diagnosed 7 years ago, and had symptoms for at least 2 years prior. I kept telling the doctors I had it, but they kept saying NO. I wish they would have been right. My nuro doc told me that it did not. I was just wondering how many of you that have PD have parents or grandparents that also had it. Janice
