Regarding ovarian and peritoneal cancer: (article about CA-125 cut) There is indeed some value in the CA-125 test, but it is far from specific and is no "magic bullet". It is not the "answer" to diagnosing ovarian cancer (like the Pap test was for cervical cancer). It may be helpful, but the CA-125 can give both false positives and false negatives. I lost my first wife from ovarian cancer. It is a terrible disease and hard to diagnose. The CA-125 test is a step along the way to find "tumor markers", but it falls short as a true "screening test". It is at its best in *following* ovarian cancer which has already been diagnosed and treated. Best, Bob *********************************** ROBERT A. FINK, M. D., F.A.C.S.
