Susan, I am so glad to hear your mother is doing better, I have a couple of
ideas that might help.  There are lamps available that can be switched on by
just touching any metal part of the lamp, also there are adapters that a
regular lamp can be connected to, that work the same.  Also if you could have
a rack made that would hold the blankets up higher than your mothers feet,
maybe something like they use to hold an electric iron cord away from the
ironing board?  They have clamps on the bottom and could attach to the frame
of the bed.  Another possibility is the kind of semi rigid plastic pipe used
for underground sprinklers, sometimes called funny pipe, Not PVC, which is too
stiff to curve.  It could be made into a semi circle and the ends could be
taped or tied to the bed frame.  Whatever you use should be smooth, so if she
kicks it, it will not hurt her foot.  Hope this helps. [log in to unmask]
