I have twice contacted Tennessee's U.S. Senators (Messrs. Thompson and Frist) via e-mail to urge their support of the Udall Act and then the full appropriation of the $100MM earmarked for Parkinson's Research. Sen. Thompson personally responded with well-informed letters discussing his continued support for Parkinson's Research. While I suspect his staffers wrote the letters, he did sign them himself. I never heard from Sen. Frist, but he is a physician-turned-politician and was a supporter of the proposed legislation. I will now urge my senators to lift the ban on fetal tissue research. Both are Republicans, but perhaps they could agree to certain circumstances where this type of research could be allowed. I hope others will do the same - it can make a difference.
