Repost of "Koller on Thalamotomy et al"

On our local 10 pm ABC-affiliate newscast Friday Dr. William Koller commented
that thalamotomy surgery is a relatively old one, and he said in general he
would NOT recommend it especially to a younger PWP. This is because it
destroys some
cells and he is concerned that this might make the patient less able to take
advantage of new therapies as they come along. He thinks the stimulation
surgery which is performed at KUMC is a better choice.

Both Drs. Koller and Pahwa think that drugs and/or other therapies that
reverse
and cure the disease are likely within 10 years.[note: who knows? could be in
trials now :-)]

Koller estimated 10% of new cases are in those under 40.
