For some reason, I started sleeping with my mouth open about 4-5 months ago.
When I get up to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night, my mouth's dry
as the Sahara.

I came across something a month or so ago about dry mouth being a condition
that can lead to tooth decay and other problems (sound familiar, Ivan?). I
visited my dentist shortly after that and asked him if this is something that
I should be concerned about. He said as long as my mouth isn't dry during
the day, I needn't worry. He did prescribe Periomed (stannus flouride) which
I now use daily. It's a liquid that is added to roughly an ounce of water,
and you use it after you brush your teeth. You brush a little with it, use
half to swish around in you mouth, and repeat. It's benefits are many,
according to the literature. Time will tell for me.

You may want to discuss this option with your dentist at your next visit. It
could be the thing that keeps you from major tooth and gum surgery.
