Edward R. Murrow's Widow Dies at 88

NFF/'g-IAM, Mass. (AP) - Janet Murrow, a CBS and British Broadcasting Corp.
journalist and widow of Edward R. Mun'ow, has died. She was 88.

Mrs. Murrow, who suffered fromParkinson's disease, died Friday of heart
failure.

A native of Middletown, Conn., Mrs. Murrow met her future husband while
attending Mount Holyoke College. They married in 1934.

The couple moved to London in 1937 when Murrow was named European director for
CBS. Mrs. Mum0w began writing scripts for the BBC before becoming a
correspondent for CBS.

She also served as chah'woman of the London committee of the Bundles for
Britain campaign, in which Americans donated clothing, household supplies and
medicine to war-tom England.

After the United States entered World War N, Mrs. Mumow became a war
correspondent, filing reports on the air ambulance service and Army field
hospitals. Her husband made a name for himself by delivering radio broadcasts
during air raids.

Mrs. Mumow stopped working as a journalist after the war. After her husband's
death in 1965, she moved to South Hadley and worked at the Mount Holyoke
College Art Museumuntil her retirement.

She leaves a son, Casey, ofPutney, Vt., and two grandsons.
