good!
so we are not alone in these recurring discussions!

e-mail is a new frontier
e-mailing lists are a whole other miracle on this frontier
so we are all pioneers together

>here is my Internet 'Netiquette' promise to my fellow list-members:

this is a great list, bill!
i've added my comments and notes for newbies
since our newest members tend to be new
to computers, to e-mail, and to e-mailing-lists as well

>* I will always post in plain ASCII text to the list --...

newbie-note:
this is one of the settings
that can be changed in your e-mail software program
'set-up' or 'configuration' or 'preferences' or 'tools' or whatever

>* I will never "quote" the entire text of a message I reply to on-list

newbie-note:
this is another setting that can 'usually' be changed
in your e-mail software program set-up
that is, unless you use AOL - that's a whole other animal

hmmm
i use the 'carriage-return' [aka the 'return' key] all the time
for my 'style of writing'
but otherwise i have my 'eudora light' e-mail software set
so that there are no return commands embedded in the text
thus ensuring [i hope] that the receiver's settings
as to line width will take precedence -
i may be right or wrong here -
i arrived at this conclusion by guess and by golly
due to lack of de-geeked instructions

quick nerd question: where does the term 'carriage-return' originate?

>* If the text of my reply heads off in a different direction than the

yep, good thinking
i find myself doing this more and more
either / changing the header / or adding to it

>* If my post is not .related to the list-topic,

yep, also good thinking
a lot of us tend to use Non-PD: or even NPD: for the same reason
i also use NEWS: for news articles and QT: for quotations

>* I will not post any large files -- graphics, sounds, movies, whatever...

we had a problem with this
so our list-mom Barb Patterson
changed the listserver computer settings
so that any message over a certain size is automatically rejected

we can change our subscription setting to 'digest format mail'
[i.e. messages are collected by the listserver computer
over a period of time, and then sent out as a 'lump'
two or three times per day]

by sending the message:
     SET PARKINSN DIGEST
to:
     [log in to unmask]

and we can change back to 'regular mail'
[i.e. messages are sent out by the listserver computer
individually, as they are received]

by sending the message:
     SET PARKINSN MAIL
to:
     [log in to unmask]
