That sounds to me like a possible bone spur.  I don't know whether or not I
ever had one, cuz I never had it checked out, but I had similar symptoms as
you've described.  The symptoms eventually left on their own, but while I
had them, they were painful.  My heel usually hurt the worst when I first
stepped on it  when getting out of bed in the morning.  It also hurt some
when standing/walking after having been sitting for a while.  After moving
around for a while, it usually  went away, until the next time I got  up
again.  One of my  friend's moms also had  the same thing, only she had it
checked out and I believe they told her it was a bone spur.  Surgery may
help speed the healing, but I think they generally go away after a bit.
Also, i f I remember right, my  acupuncturist said that in Chinese medicine,
that kind of pain in the foot signalled that the whole body was somehow
lacking in energy, or something like that.
