This year's call for proposals from the Canadian Society for the Study of Rhetoric follows. I hope you'll all consider submitting a proposal. The deadline is January 31st. Philippa Spoel V.P., CSSR/SCER Canadian Society for the Study of Rhetoric Call for Papers The Canadian Society for the Study of Rhetoric will be holding its annual conference in Sherbrooke, Quebec from June 2 to 4, 1999, in conjunction with the Canadian Humanities and Social Sciences Congress. This year, we invite proposals related to the theme of Space and Place in rhetorical theory, practice, or history. We also invite proposals in any one or more of the following areas: rhetorical theory and criticism history of rhetoric political and social discourse sociolinguistics and discourse analysis composition theory and pedagogy professional communication semiotics media and communications critical theory and literature To ensure that we have sufficient time for all presenters and for discussion, each presentation at the 1999 CSSR conference will be limited to 20 minutes. Selected papers will be published in the bi-annual CSSR proceedings. English and French proposals are welcomed. Cette année, nous invitons les propositions liées au thème DE L'ESPACE ET DES LIEUX dans la théorie, la pratique, ou l'histoire de la rhétorique. Nous invitons aussi les propositions sur la recherche en rhétorique dans l'un ou l'autre des domaines suivants: théorie et critique de la rhétorique histoire et rhétorique discours politique et social sociolinguistique et analyse du discours théorie et pratique de la composition communication professionelle sémiotique médias et communications théorie et littérature critiques Les présentations au colloque SCER de 1999 ne dépasseront pas 20 minutes, et certaines communications seront choisies pour publication dans les actes de la SCER.
