Why not foreseen the Y2K problem ??
Back when many of the programs used today were originally writtten memory
was precious so the convention was adopted to just use the last 2 digits of
the year. In those days 64K was the common memory. My computer at work ( a
Xerox) had 64K and when the upgrade to 128 became available it was a new
motherboard for about $1000. The stupidity comes in when the problem was
not recognized as being important until about 4 or 5(?) years ago - then the
inertia of bureaucracy had to be overcome to do something about it. The
profit motive dictates that you never solve a problem until it becomes acute
and costs 2 or 3 times as much to solve.
