hi all i don't get it what's the point of responding privately to posted messages? isn't the list meant for sharing and exchanging? the reason for its existence? some of us are comfortable with writing and posting and nerdling i would venture a guess that a lot more of us aren't if the vast majority of list-members are long time 'lurkers' rather than frequent 'contributors' doesn't that mean that they like the list the way it is and they like participating in it the way that they do? [i.e. being able to 'listen in' and learn by 'osmosis' as it were] if someone posts a question to the list and then gets 10 responses but 8 are private and only 2 are posted to the list then we are all losing out we the present membership as well as the future membership and future 'diggers' and searchers of the archives i have said before and i will say again [since my opinion has not been changed by anything i've read in the past month] the 'problem' with the list 'volume' and the list 'quality' is in the eyes of the beholders not in the list i saw nothing whatsoever 'wrong' with the list that needed 'fixing' i see only a miracle of its time and i, for one, feel privileged that i am able to benefit from it and participate in it janet janet paterson - 51 now /41 dx /37 onset - almonte/ontario/canada <http://www.newcountry.nu/pd/members/janet/index.htm> [log in to unmask]
