Hi Barb and John and all the rest of you,

Here is a private post I sent to Barb Mallut & Barbara Patterson

I can't imagine Barb Mallut writing under an alias any more than I
can imagine Murray Charters hiding behind a pseudonym!

Somehow I think I for sure would know Barb Mallut's style, signed or
unsigned.

I personally feel no fear of an expanded more open list. I've always
been able to open any file to my bosses or to my co-workers or to the
employees who report to me without any fears.

Some subjects may of course be sensitive and even normally off limits
but if they are dealt with in a matter consistent with honesty and
integrity and without malice then there is little to fear.

That said, there is still a need for privacy in many matters. When
privacy is the major criteria then the matter can no longer be aired
on this list.

Putting all future postings on the web is an entirely different
matter than opening all past postings to a new scrutiny.

I am having mixed feelings and a difficult time deciding which side to
support since I am not 100 % for or against the parkinson List
On-line.

Out of respect for the feelings of many others I must cast my ballot
with those opposed to the archives being placed in a public forum.

The fact is they were not posted under the "new" rules!

On the subject of the list since the night before Christms until now
and which format I prefer..............I think everyone knows I loved
the old list ... high volume or not.

My computer crashed in August and I was off line for over 4 months.
When I came back on there were 7000 messages waiting in my in basket.
I did not delete them until I read them. I'm about 1/2 way through in
a month and I work full time and volunteer almost full time. If
something is important it will get fitted in.

Well I'm starting to run off at the mouth like a soup sandwich
so.......

All the best to you both..........Murray

Today being Saturday I finally had time to log on and get a first
hand feeling for this very important change.

My impressions formed from reading posts on this subject don't mesh
with my actual feelings since logging on and sampling the site.

First of all ... The archives are still the archives ... nothing has
changed there. They can still be searched exactly the same way our
cyber sis janet has taught us over and over. None of that material
is going to be on-line through clickable links on John's web page.

Secondly.. Nothing here resembles a chatroom in any remote fashion.
Wrong idea!

The material that is available consists of the 200 latest posts (on
this list that would consist of 3 days to maybe 7 days posts. (just
enough to follow a thread).

I did Barbara and John a dis-service by speaking out as a reactionary
without the courtesy and respect of opening my jaundiced eye to see
what they were presenting.

Only new messages (last few days) are posted. If your e-mails down
or you are away from home you can log on to the internet and browse
every second day and not miss a thing!

Allow me to change my opinion. The change to put this limited
posting on-line where anyone who links to your page can sample the
PARKINSN LIST is brilliant and perfectly executed.

Thankyou John & Barbara. ................ Murray

ps: I still love the old list but I will love the new list just as
much if we can adapt once more and focus on the caring, the sharing,
the net working that makes this list what it is........
