Heredity Not A Major Etiologic Factor In Typical Parkinson's Disease WESTPORT, Jan 27 (Reuters Health) - Genetic factors are important in early-onset Parkinson's disease but are not a major etiologic component of cases diagnosed after the age of 50 years, according to the results of what is reportedly the largest twin study of Parkinson's disease ever conducted. Dr. Caroline M. Tanner, of The Parkinson's Institute, Sunnyvale, California, and a multicenter team interviewed 14,436 individual white male twins, 65 years of age or older. The subjects were identified using the World War II Veteran Twins Registry, which was assembled by the National Academy of Sciences/National Research Council on the basis of twin and veteran status alone. http://ipn.intelihealth.com/ipn/ihtIPN?c=208895
