Brokaw did announce the correspondent's name, but the earthquake segment
came on immediately. Wouldn't you think there would be an apology or
some reference to what happened?

I did write a polite enquiry, but all I got back was:

Subject: Thank You

Thank you for contacting NBC Nightly News with Tom Brokaw via the
Internet.

We began using our Internet e-mail address on the air in December of
1993. Since then we are pleased to have heard from many viewers
reacting to stories. We are especially encouraged that many of you are
suggesting stories you would like to report or investigate.

Your feedback is critically important to Nightly News.

We receive hundreds of e-mail messages every day. We read them all.

However, because of the volume of mail we receive, we may not be able to
respond to each letter directly. We do want you to know that we
appreciate hearing from you!

Many of our most important stories come directly from your letters and
we look forward to any future ideas and comments you have.

We will try to answer as many of your inquiries as possible, but we have
created this automated response to address a few of your frequently
asked questions.
