Hello PWP and Caregivers....

My husband, Doug, is the PWP and will be undergoing open heart surgery for
mitral valve replacement in the coming weeks. He is 55 years old,
diagnosed 8 years and has retired as a public school teacher. He continues
to be active, drives, and is successfully involved with living life. I am
a professional within the health care system so know how to navigate those
systems quite well.

However, I find there is always more I can learn or something I may not
have thought about and that the best people to help provide insights and
learning are those who have encountered a similar situation in their own
lives. So I, we, turn to you here on the Listserv.

Any insights/helps you can provide us would be most appreciated. I'm not
looking to raise our anxiety level or fear level but to have all the
knowedge we need to appropriately advocate for the special care a PWP needs
during such a major event.

Thank you in advance for your time and care in sharing with us.

Carol Ford
