Recently someone mentioned using Elavil "a mild anti-depressant" , I
believe to help with drooling.

Please be aware that this drug is one of the older "tri-cyclic"
anti-depressants, and is an anti-cholinergic. The chemical name is
amitriptyline. The book "Worst Pills/Best Pills", aimed at older persons,
says Elavil "has more harmful side effects than any other drug in its
family"---if you need an anti-depressant, there are newer and better
choices. Elavil is said to be bad for older persons, and can cause both
mental and physical side effects such as confusion, short-term memory
problems, dry mouth, difficulty urinating, along with many others.
I recall reading on the lists that the tricyclics were in general NOT
recommended for PWPs--be sure to check with your doctor if considering one
of them.Elavil should NOT be used if you are taking Eldepryl, according to
Somerset Pharmaceuticals.
