This is a repeat of an earlier post that was not done correctly. This will be a fantastic source of information for the young-onset patient. Special Symposium for Young-Onset Parkinson’s Scheduled for March 27th The Central Ohio Parkinson Society (COPS) will hold its spring symposium on March 27 starting promptly at 10 AM at the Public Library in Old Worthington, Ohio. This free informational meeting will be targeted to the special needs of the newly-diagnosed patient and the young-onset patient who may still be employed. The morning session will be helpful for the newly-diagnosed of any age. The afternoon session will provide information about your rights in the workplace under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Tips on Social Security Disability Insurance and information about the medical aspects of disability retirement will be provided. Speakers for the morning session will be: ---Dr. Jean Hubble, Director of the Madden Center of Excellence for the Treatment of Parkinson’s Disease, Ohio State University ---Angela Nicolosi, Sawmill Family Counseling Speakers for the afternoon session will be: ---Dave Cameron, ADA Coordinator, State of Ohio ---John Cozs, Ohio State University Bureau of Disability Determination ---Pat Kriss, Social Security Administration Dr. Hubble is a neurologist specializing in research and treatment of Parkinson's. she will discuss the medical aspects of the disease and current research. Ms Nicolosi will discuss the psychological aspects of the disease including denial and depression. Mr Cameron will discuss employee rights under ADA and what employers must do to accommodate our disease. The last two speakers will discuss the ins and outs of qualifying for disability. Following the afternoon session, we will have an optional session on using the internet as an information source for PD. Computers with internet access will be available for this hands-on. Be sure to let us know if you will be attending this section as well. A second optional session held concurrently will be a panel discussion of three PD patients currently employed who will discuss and answer questions about working with PD.
